The Kings Head

Ruan Lanihorne, Truro TR2 5NX, UK – 01872 501263

Located in the quite rural village of Ruan Lanihorne, The Kings Head is perfect for getting away from it all, which is exactly what we were looking for. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed at the front door by the owners Nikki and Andrew (who is also the chef), and shown to our room called The Loft. The Loft, which is a two-storey apartment, is the only accommodation at the pub and sleeps 2 people. The lower level that you enter into has a two-seater dining table that was adorned with a large arrangement of flowers and a bowl fresh fruit. There is also a breakfast bar with an extensive selection of cereals, Muesli, Granola and seeds as well as homemade jam and marmalade to go with the locally baked bread. Also provided is a large selection of teas and coffee and in the fridge is milk and yogurts, all of this is complimentary. Upstairs is a large room running the whole length of the pub with an enormous bed which was very comfortable and sofa area and large flatscreen TV. This room has plenty of storage, hangers and a dressing table with makeup mirror and hairdryer. The separate bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, toilet, sink and all appears to be recently fitted and all very clean indeed. The whole apartment is very well appointed and decorated to a high standard. We had an evening meal at the pub and it was quite frankly stunning. Each course was just perfect, not overcomplicated and just full of flavour. Dishes use locally sourced ingredients and there is an extensive wine list and local ales and beers at the bar. Thank you again Andrew for such a fantastic meal, the Lemon Posset alone would be worth a return visit! Nikki heads up the front of house in the bar and restaurant and is so friendly, chatty and interesting we could of spent the whole evening just talking between courses, and the table placemats were fun and you could hear other diners talking about them but you’ll have to visit to see theam, I won’t spoil it :) Nikki and Andrew, you are wonderful hosts so easy to get alone with, you really pulled out all the stops and with your extensive local knowledge of things to do and see made our brief two night stay just perfect and we will be returning when we are back in the area!

Came today for the Sunday Lunch for my birthday with husband, father and children, I can honestly say it was lovely, the vegetables were cooked with care and attention the meat was beautifully pink and the gravy rich and full of depth, the wine menu is extensive and very reasonably priced so full marks from me as a very fussy chef ! But what really sets this beautiful pub/ restaurant apart is the lovely ambience and attentive staff, the landlady/ host is fantastic and hospitable she really makes for a great dining experience. We will definitely be back and believe me as a ex landlady and working chef I seldom write reviews but this lovely place deserves it so take heed if you want a lovely meal with a great ambience this is definitely for you.
